Storm causes widespread damage, power outages

A severe storm system brought hail, rain and damaging winds thate were nearly 70 mph to the SVEC service area on Tuesday evening, March 21, 2017. The storm took down trees, power lines, broke poles, left many homes and businesses heavily damaged and left thousands of SVEC members without power.

At the height of the power outages, approximately 9,000 members were without power. SVEC line, right-of-way and contract crews began clean-up and restoration work immediately and quickly restored power to 2,000 members.

"This is going to be a long outage. We will have members who will be without power tonight and probably throughout the day tomorrow. Please have patience with us, this was a rough storm, but rest assured, we are working on restoring power to everyone, and we will get to you," said SVEC President/CEO Mike Partin.
