SVECares changing lives a few cents at a time

In May of 2000 SVEC members began changing lives with the small change that comes from rounding their electric bills up to the next dollar.

In that small amount of time nearly $500,000 has gone back into the community to help improve the quality of life in our communities.
Volunteer fire departments and emergency medical squads are better equipped to respond to local emergencies, community recreation facilities are meeting the needs of a larger audience, more of the needs of disadvantaged children are being met, the mentally and physically challenged are finding wider opportunities for vocational training, and scores of individuals and families have received assistance during times of family medical emergencies, fires, and temporary financial crisis all with just pennies a day from the caring individuals who make up the membership of the Sequachee Valley Electric Co-op.

These and many other projects have been funded by rounding participants’ electric bills up to the nearest dollar. The average contribution is 50 cents a month or about $6 a year. Donations are not used for political purposes or to pay electric or gas bills.

The board meets the second Tuesday of each month and applications are taken until the first of each month. Applications that come in after the first will be held until the next month. Applications may be considered between meetings in the case of a dire emergency.
