Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative recently sponsored a dinner to honor this year’s Washington Youth Tour Writing Contest Winners. In attendance were Rian Fann, Bledsoe County High School; Briley Dempsey, Grundy County High School; Gracie Rains, Marion County High School; Raven Holloway, Richard Hardy Memorial School; Sydney Boggs, South Pittsburg High School; and Caitlynn Lewis, Whitwell High School. Hadley Smith from Sequatchie County High School was unable to attend. Smith’s short story was chosen as the over-all winner and was entered in the statewide writing contest.
“Congratulations to these outstanding students on writing winning short stories,” said SVEC President/CEO Michael Partin. “They are leaders in their schools and communities and exemplify the qualities our cooperative values.”
Every year Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative sponsors the Washington Youth Tour Writing Contest for high school juniors. Normally, the first-place winners from each of the seven public high school receive an expense paid trip to Washington D.C. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the trip has been canceled for 2021. In place of the trip, each of the first-place winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship to further his or her education.
