In cooperation with the Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC) and its state agency partners, Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative will again serve as a distribution center for the 2021 Tennessee Tree Day on Friday, March 19, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Pikeville, South Pittsburg and Tracy City offices. The distribution for those ordering trees for pick up in Sequatchie County will be held Saturday, March 20, at the UT Extension office at 170 Church St. in Dunlap from 8 a.m. to noon.
Tennessee Tree Day 2021 is the largest community tree-planting project of its kind in the Southeast. The long-term goal is to plant and care for 1 million native trees. In order for this project to succeed, event organizers need to recruit upwards of 40,000 volunteers to plant the seedlings on Saturday, March 20. We hope you will join us.
To achieve this goal, the group will provide — for a donation of $1.99 per tree — bundles of bare-root seedlings native to our area to any Tennessee resident who registers in advance to reserve them. The trees are yours to plant on your own property.
Registration for the seedlings at tectn.org is open through March 7. Complete details for the program — including the variety of trees available, which varies by region — can be found on the website. For more information, contact SVEC’s Roy Harver at 423-837-5060.
